Web Design Choices & Levels

Every web site is different, which makes it impossible to give a flat price for any particular site. This being the case, all web developers use different methods to determine the cost for web design. We will describe some of the most common website types below, just to help you determine what would work best for you. If you already have a requirements list for your website look below and we can give a free quote on your next website.

The different types of websites

Brochure Websites

A “brochure” site simply means a website that serves as an on-line brochure that gives general information about your company’s/ business’s products and services. A brochure site does not have complex database programming, e-commerce, or lots of interactivity. It basically serves as an on-line advertisement that features graphic design.
This kind of site is a great start for a company and can be expanded in the future as your company grows. In this day and age, it is essential for a company to have an on-line presence as well as a basic corporate brochure site. These web sites can start for as little as $2,000.

Corporate Websites

Corporate or commercial site goes beyond the basic on-line brochure. More complex sites feature a greater level of interactivity and database integration. You may need a private intranet for employee communication and document sharing, or an extranet to share information and track vendors and/or customers. Corporate web sites usually start around $5,000 and can go as high as $100,000 depending on the complexity.

Interactive Database Websites

A complex interactive site has a large amount of back-end programming. More complex sites feature a greater level of interactivity and database integration. Most complex corporate sites consist of data driven content and dynamically generated pages. The amount of pages is not as relevant as the amount of programming involved. The most important aspect to an interactive site is that its easy to navigate, fast, and scalable. These web sites usually start around $15,000 and can go as high as $250,000 depending on the complexity.
Back end programming can be done in a variety of different languages, some of the more popular server-side languages are PHP and ASP. Web Interfaces are normally written in CSS and HTML. If you don’t know what these languages are, don’t worry, let us make the recommendation.

E-commerce Websites

These can range from very simple to very complex. There are quite a few things to consider when preparing to budget an eCommerce site. These web sites usually start around $1,500 and can go as high as $250,000 depending on the complexity. There are several ways we can put together your online store, and truly depends if you would like us to maintain the store or if you would like to.

The different sizes of websites

How many pages do I need for my website? This is a question that we hear frequently from business owners because often, it is one of the factors that determines how much a new website costs. The answer is not completely black and white, and it depends a lot on what types of services you offer as well as how much information you want to present about each individual in your company.

  • The Basic
There is a set of pages that make sense for almost any small business website.  These pages present an overview of your business, the services you offer, your team, and how people can contact us. The basic set of pages are:
  1. Homepage
  2. Services page
  3. About Us
  4. Contact Us
  5. Site Map
  6. Privacy Policy

A Site Map is usually automatically generated by the website content management system, and the Privacy Policy is standard language about collecting contact info using forms, periodically contacting those who submit their info, and not sharing that contact info with third parties. At minimum, a well-organized small business website will contain these six pages.  You or your inbound marketing consultant will be on the hook to produce content for the Homepage, Services page, and About Us page that is well written for online reading, optimized for visibility on the search engines, and provides your visitors with a clear call to action.

  • Adding More Pages
Two reasons why you would want to add more pages from the beginning are if you wanted to provide more information about your services and more information about your team members.
For example, a 3 person real estate team may want to have these additional pages:
    Services

  • Houses for sale
  • Houses for lease
  • Businesses for sale
  • Businesses for lease

Our Team

  • The Broker
  • Agent 1
  • Agent 2

People and search engines love context and relevancy.  The more specific a page can be, the better, because you can use headlines, images, and bullets to convey the main points to people, and your page will be considered more relevant by the search engines for the content on the page. While most small businesses can start planning their website content from the same blueprint, if your business warrants additional pages to describe your services and team, be sure to include additional pages to provide visitors and search engines the proper context.
